Dear [Elected Official’s Name],

I am writing to draw your attention to the recent WHO report highlighting that over 22,500 Palestinians in Gaza have sustained life-changing injuries as a result of Israel’s bombardments and blockade. This means 1 in every 4 injured have their lives irrevocably changed as a result. These include amputations, spinal cord injuries, brain damage, and other debilitating conditions. Many of the injured are women and children, with many suffering multiple injuries.

Up to 4,050 amputations have occurred. In July, UNICEF reported that 1,000 children in Gaza had lost one or both of their legs due to bombings. These catastrophic injuries demand urgent rehabilitation services, but Gaza’s healthcare system is on the brink of collapse amidst Israel’s bombardment.

Only 17 out of 36 hospitals in Gaza are partially functional, and essential rehab services, including in-patient care and prosthetics, are no longer available. Gaza’s only limb reconstruction and rehab centre was forced to close in December due to a lack of supplies and personnel and was later raided in February.

Israel’s blockade prevents the flow of vital medical supplies, leaving patients without access to essential care. Over 39 physiotherapists have been killed by Israeli forces, and healthcare workers continue to be displaced, making it nearly impossible for the injured to receive proper treatment.

We must sanction Israel to stop their bombardment. A full arms embargo and a two-way trade embargo must be enforced until Israel ceases its illegal occupation, blockade and other human rights violations; this will also add pressure for a ceasefire. Recognising the State of Palestine and supporting the prosecution of war crimes is essential.

I look forward to your commitment to upholding international law through these actions.
