Dear [Elected Official’s Name],
I am writing to urge you to take immediate and decisive action in response to the escalating crisis at Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza. For the past two weeks, Israeli forces have imposed a renewed siege on the hospital, which has led to the abduction of many medical staff members to undisclosed locations, where they likely face extreme risk, including torture.
There are around 125 patients in the hospital, but only four doctors remain, with approximately 50 volunteers and other staff. Medical personnel at the hospital, who face immediate risk of execution, report being overwhelmed by the influx of wounded individuals and say they have no access to medical supplies, leading to immense suffering and preventable deaths.
Israeli forces bombed the hospital again overnight, targeting the children’s ward and damaging essential equipment needed to sustain newborns in intensive care. The Director of Nursing, Eid Sabbah, reported that the hospital is now forced to place newborns and critical patients in lower levels without adequate equipment.
Kamal Adwan Hospital is the last partially functioning hospital in northern Gaza. The remaining staff have issued an urgent plea for a humanitarian corridor for the safe delivery of medical supplies and personnel but also immediate protection for the patients and medical staff who remain at the hospital under direct threat. I call on your immediate action to address this without delay.
Israel must also be sanctioned for its crimes. A full arms embargo and a two-way trade embargo must be enforced until Israel ceases its illegal occupation, blockade and human rights violations in the region; this will also add pressure for a ceasefire. Recognising the State of Palestine and supporting the prosecution of war crimes is essential.
I look forward to your commitment to upholding international law through these actions.
Your constituent,
