Dear [Elected Official’s Name],
I am writing to demand immediate and decisive action as Israel continues to bomb displaced Palestinians. On Dec 4th, Israeli forces bombed a makeshift displacement tent camp in al-Mawasi, igniting fires that burned at least 20 people alive. Earlier the same day, Abu Hamisa School, which housed displacement tents, was also bombed, killing a medic and destroying the few remaining shelters for families who had fled their homes.
These attacks are systematic. Families displaced by relentless bombing are offered no safe refuge. Even areas designated as “safe zones” by the occupying forces are obliterated. Civilians complying with evacuation orders are being targeted as they flee; with the recent Israeli quadcopter bombing of families attempting to escape via the main Gaza Strip highway.
Meanwhile, Gaza’s entire healthcare system has been methodically destroyed and targeted. Kamal Adwan Hospital has been bombed for the fifth time in just weeks, and more than 100 patients face imminent death due to a lack of oxygen and critical supplies. The suffering of survivors is compounded by starvation, as food and aid deliveries are blocked or destroyed in targeted bombings.
This is not collateral damage; it is calculated cruelty aimed at erasing an entire population. Leading humanitarian organisations and the UN have confirmed that these actions meet the legal definition of genocide.
These atrocities demand action. Words of condemnation are not enough.
Specifically, I call on you to sanction Israel to enforce a ceasefire and hold its leadership accountable for violating international law. Sanctions have proven effective in halting egregious human rights abuses in other contexts; they must be applied here. This includes a ban on weapons and military equipment sales and licenses and a two-way trade embargo. We must also officially recognise the state of Palestine to affirm their right to self-determination.
There is no time to hesitate. Act now.
Your constituent,
