I am writing with grave concern as Israel’s defence minister, Israel Katz has revealed plans to concentrate all of Gaza’s population into one displacement camp in Rafah, before expelling them to Egypt – a clear and undeniable act of ethnic cleansing.

Gaza Humanitarian Foundation aid centres, which have so far resulted in the slaughter of at least 743 people and the injury of 4,891 more have been used to funnel Gaza’s population into an increasingly small area of land. In fact, according to the UNOCHA, 85% of Gaza is now a militarised zone or under forced displacement orders — leaving just 15% of land for 2 million Palestinians.

Gaza’s population is currently being held against its will, in just 55km² of land — forced to live in extremely cramped, unsanitary conditions, with limited access to healthcare, and critically restricted access to food and water — the basic necessities for life. Newborn babies are starving to death due to Israel’s complete ban on baby formula entering Gaza. Now, this footprint is going to shrink again.

“Israel Katz laid out an operational plan for a crime against humanity. It is nothing less than that. It is all about population transfer to the southern tip of the Gaza Strip in preparation for deportation outside the Strip.” Michael Sfard, one of Israel’s leading human rights lawyers.

This latest plan for ethnic cleansing by forced displacement, revealed by Katz, follows 22 months of the mass extermination and starvation of Palestinians in Gaza. This is genocide.

I call on you to ensure the government:
• ⁠Imposes full, comprehensive sanctions on Israel.
• Enforce a complete two-way trade embargo — ending all import and export activity with Israel.
• Immediately end all arms sales and intelligence cooperation.
• Ensure the unimpeded access of aid and humanitarian organisations, and the suspension of GHF’s deadly “aid” sites.
