Dear [Elected Official’s Name],

Footage has emerged of Israel bombing and destroying the Turkish Friendship Hospital in Gaza, the only cancer treatment centre there. In 2024, it was attacked and occupied by Israeli forces, who turned it into a military base. Now, it has been completely levelled.

This latest targeted attack on healthcare follows a Human Rights Watch report detailing war crimes committed by the Israeli military whilst occupying hospitals. This included the denial of water and electricity leaving sick and wounded people to die, while soldiers mistreated and forcibly displaced patients and health workers, and damaged and destroyed hospitals.

At the end of 2024,  a report by the UN Human Rights Office found that Israel’s pattern of deadly attacks on and near hospitals in Gaza pushed the healthcare system to the brink of total collapse, with catastrophic effects on Palestinians’ access to health and medical care. As Israel has begun targeting and bombing hospitals once again, we can expect further avoidable deaths and obstruction of treatment and life-saving care.

For nearly 20 days no food, no clean water, and no medical supplies have entered due to Israel’s illegal blockade. These actions affirm why Netanyahu is a wanted war criminal by the ICC, and why UN reports and legal experts have described Israel’s actions as genocide and apartheid. This is not a conflict—it is the deliberate, systematic destruction and extermination of an entire people.

Normalisation with Israel must end and the protection of the Palestinian people is paramount. Sanctions against other states have proven effective in halting egregious human rights abuses; they must be applied here. A two-way trade and arms embargo and an end to diplomatic relations with the apartheid state is essential.

We must recognise a Palestinian state immediately to commit to a lasting peace and an end to the illegal occupation. This is a call for international law to be upheld and basic human rights for all to be protected.
