Dear [Elected Official’s Name],

I am writing to you with a deep sense of urgency and grief, driven by the horrifying report of 2,100 babies under two killed by Israel in 10 months. Since October 7, nearly 17,000 Palestinian children have been slaughtered by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip. These staggering numbers are not just statistics; they represent a profound human tragedy and the catastrophic failure of the international community to intervene. The continued inaction of our governments enables this devastating death toll to rise, and we must act now to prevent further loss of life. We must impose sanctions now.

The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor has revealed a deeply disturbing pattern: the systematic and brutal targeting of Palestinian children by the Israeli military. This incomprehensible violence is rooted in the dehumanisation of Palestinians. Israel’s military targets Palestinians and their children daily, methodically, and with shocking brutality, virtually without pause for the past ten months. This sustained and deliberate campaign of violence has led to an unprecedented and horrifying rate of child fatalities.

As the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor poignantly states, “The number of Palestinian children – whether infants or children in general – killed by the Israeli army is horrifying, and the rate of their killing is unprecedented in the history of modern wars.” The deliberate killing of 2,100 babies under the age of two is not just a tragic statistic; it is a damning reflection of the brutality of Israel’s leadership and its ongoing campaign against the Palestinian people.

This reality demands an immediate and decisive response from the international community. It is imperative that our government, alongside others around the world, impose strict sanctions on Israel. The time for complacency has long passed; the continued slaughter of innocent children cannot be tolerated. We must act now to hold Israel accountable for these heinous war crimes and to prevent further atrocities.

Sanctions should include an arms embargo and a two-way trade embargo; this pressure can be used to enforce a ceasefire. We must recognise a Palestinian state and support The Hague’s call for the dismantlement of the illegal occupation and settlements, which we have a legal and moral obligation to support. Perpetrators of war crimes and crimes against humanity must be prosecuted.

I urge you, as an elected official, to raise your voice against these horrific acts and to push for immediate sanctions and international action against Israel. The world is watching, and history will remember those who stood up against such unimaginable cruelty.

Thank you for your attention to this critical matter, I hope to see prompt and meaningful action from you and our government.
