Dear [Elected Official’s Name],

I am writing to urge immediate action in response to Israel’s ongoing assault on Lebanon. On 23rd September 2024, Israel launched attacks killing over 500 people, including at least 50 children, and wounding thousands more. Civilian infrastructure and transport networks have been decimated, marking the bloodiest day in Lebanon’s recent history.

This reckless campaign follows the same devastating tactics seen in Gaza, with Israel making broad claims to justify the bombing of civilian homes and densely populated areas. The destruction and loss of life are staggering.

Israel is forcing tens of thousands of people to evacuate, with families now seeking refuge in schools as temporary shelters. This deliberate displacement could be a move to invade and permanently occupy southern Lebanon, redrawing borders.

Israeli leaders have signalled their intent to eradicate Lebanon. Israel’s Minister of Education declared “There is no difference between Hezbollah and Lebanon. Lebanon will be annihilated. It will cease to exist.” This genocidal rhetoric mirrors statements made earlier in the year by Ben-Gvir, who remarked “There will be no one left to reach an agreement with, and that’s good.”

The parallels between these attacks on Lebanon and Gaza are undeniable. The intent is clear: to eradicate entire populations under the pretext of national security. We have seen these patterns before, and we cannot remain silent as these atrocities unfold.

We must sanction Israel, just as the recent UN resolution made clear. A full arms embargo and a two-way trade embargo must be enforced until Israel ceases its illegal occupation, blockade and human rights violations in the region; this will also add pressure for a ceasefire. Recognising the State of Palestine and supporting the prosecution of war crimes is essential.

I look forward to your commitment to upholding international law through these actions.
