Dear [Elected Official’s Name],
Since the ceasefire began, Israel has systematically violated its terms daily while facing no consequences from the international community. As Netanyahu openly threatens to resume the full-scale assault on Gaza, citing the captive’s release pause, we must ensure Israel ceases all violence in the territory to ensure a lasting ceasefire and hostage exchange.
The Facts: Israel’s Ceasefire Violations
At least 110 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza by Israeli forces since the ceasefire began, primarily in airstrikes and sniper fire.
Blocked Heavy Equipment: Israel agreed to allow bulldozers and other machinery into Gaza to clear over 50 million tonnes of rubble but has blocked all such equipment from entering.
Restricted Aid Trucks: Under the ceasefire terms, Israel was required to allow 600 aid trucks into Gaza daily—a number already far too low. Yet, only 70% of this aid has arrived, with some days seeing as few as 150 trucks.
Tents & Shelter Denied: Fewer than 10% of the promised 200,000 tents and shelters have been allowed in. 92% of homes are damaged or destroyed and Gaza’s population faces freezing temperatures, wind, and heavy rain.
Patients Denied Evacuation: Fewer than 15% of the agreed urgent medical care evacuations have been granted by Israel
Israel is violating the ceasefire in Gaza, in Lebanon, and invading the illegally occupied West Bank. Our government must ensure accountability for these crimes and impose sanctions to enforce their compliance with the ceasefire and international law.
A full arms embargo will ensure weapons manufactured in our country will not contribute to further bloodshed, nor uphold Israel’s system of apartheid (as concluded by the ICJ). Sanctions against other states have proven effective in halting egregious human rights abuses; they must be applied here. A two-way trade embargo, and an end to all diplomatic relations with the state on trial for genocide and whose leaders are wanted war criminals at the ICC is the bare minimum.
We must recognise a Palestinian state immediately to commit to a lasting peace and ending the illegal occupation. This is a call for international law to be upheld and basic human rights for all to be protected.
