Israel Executes 15 Medics & Buries Them in Mass Grave / Israel Targets Medics in Gaza: 15 Killed / Israel Has Killed Over 1,402 Medical Personal in Gaza / Israel’s Targeting of Healthcare is an Act of Genocide

Dear [Elected Official’s Name],

I’m writing to you with great concern as 15 medics have been discovered executed and buried by Israeli forces in a mass grave in Gaza. At least one medic had also been detained before being killed—his body was found with his hands bound.

The UN OCHA confirmed that the medics were responding to an earlier attack on their colleagues when Israeli forces fired on their clearly marked ambulances in Rafah. Their bodies bore gunshot wounds to the head and chest, clear signs of deliberate killings. Their remains had been desecrated, stuffed into black bags, and buried in a mass grave.

“We’re digging them out in their uniforms, with their gloves on.” Jonathan Whittall, Head of UN OCHA in Palestine, has said. “There’s a UN vehicle here, buried in the sand. A bulldozer—an Israeli forces bulldozer—has buried them.”

Rafah has been under relentless Israeli assault, with residents reporting mass executions in the first days of the raids. Witnesses describe young men being rounded up, executed in ditches, and children shot in front of their parents by Israeli forces.

The targeting of healthcare workers in Gaza is systematic. Since October 2023, Israel has killed 1,402 medical personnel.

  • 362 healthcare workers have been taken captive, with at least three doctors tortured to death in Israeli detention.
  • Israeli attacks have destroyed 24 hospitals and 80 healthcare centres in Gaza.
  • 142 ambulances, clearly marked as medical vehicles, have been bombed by Israel.

Just as the recent UN inquiry found that Israel’s targeting of reproductive services in Gaza is an act of genocide, the continued targeting and killing of medics is also a war crime punishable under international humanitarian law. Normalisation with Israel must end. This is not just a matter of foreign policy—it is a moral imperative. Every moment of inaction enables the continuation of these war crimes.

Sanctions against other states have proven effective in halting egregious human rights abuses; they must be applied here. A two-way trade and arms embargo and an end to diplomatic relations with the apartheid state is essential.

We must recognise a Palestinian state immediately to commit to a lasting peace and an end to the illegal occupation. This is a call for international law to be upheld and basic human rights for all to be protected.
