Dear [Elected Official’s Name],

I am writing to express deep concern over the continued violence against Palestinians, despite claims of a “ceasefire.” On Sunday, 2nd February, while hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians attempted to return to their devastated homes, Israel launched multiple aerial attacks on central and southern Gaza.

A child was killed, and at least seven people were injured, including two targeted by an Israeli drone in Khan Younis.
Another Israeli drone fired two missiles at a cart carrying civilians
Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinian homes in Bureij refugee camp (central Gaza) and Rafah (southern Gaza).

At the same time, Israel’s assault on the illegally occupied West Bank continues:

On 2nd February, Israeli forces blew up 23 buildings in Jenin, 20 of which were Palestinian family homes.
A 73-year-old Palestinian man was killed by Israeli gunfire in Jenin refugee camp

This is Not a Ceasefire – It’s the Status Quo. Israel continues to kill, bomb, and destroy Palestinian homes. This level of violence, destruction, and apartheid is exactly what was happening on 6th October 2023.

Meanwhile, despite an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court, Netanyahu has arrived in the United States, reportedly set to strike a deal to annex parts of the West Bank, to ethnically cleanse more Palestinians from their land.

You have a duty to humanity to ensure accountability for these crimes and ensure the ceasefire is upheld properly. We must suspend all relations with Israel. A full arms embargo will ensure weapons manufactured in our country will not contribute to further bloodshed, nor uphold Israel’s system of apartheid (as concluded by the ICJ).

Sanctions against other states have proven effective in halting egregious human rights abuses; they must be applied here. A two-way trade embargo, and an end to all diplomatic relations with the state on trial for genocide and whose leaders are wanted war criminals at the ICC is the bare minimum.

This is a call for international law to be upheld and basic human rights for all to be protected.
