Dear [Elected Official’s Name],
I am writing to urgently call for your immediate intervention following a targeted attack by Israeli forces on a refugee tent camp in Khan Younis. This latest bombing assault in al-Mawasi, which has killed at least 71 Palestinians, is part of a disturbing pattern of Israeli airstrikes targeting areas where the displaced have been told to seek refuge.
The images of the aftermath at the al-Mawasi refugee camp, which mostly sheltered families, are truly horrifying. The area was designated by Israeli forces as a “safe” zone, and yet their targeted bombing has murdered at least 71 and injured a further 289, with numbers only expected to increase.
Rescue workers and healthcare teams on the ground, rushing to aid the wounded and collect the dead, have also been targeted. These acts are an abhorrent violation of international humanitarian law and underscore the urgent need for decisive action, not words.
The very same “safe-zone” refugee camp was attacked by Israel in May and June, killing over 46 Palestinians and injuring over 100 more. And yet, we have also seen these attacks target humanitarian zones and displacement camps throughout the entire Gaza Strip. It is imperative that we do not allow such atrocities to go unchecked.
Your immediate and unwavering support is needed to demand a ceasefire and to impose sanctions against Israel to enforce this ceasefire. Further, it is crucial to recognise the state of Palestine to uphold the inalienable human rights of Palestinians and end the brutal occupation.
Where are the wounded to go? With operational medical facilities virtually non-existent, targeted attacks on hospitals and medical personnel, and a blockade on essential medicine and aid, the victims of Israel’s assaults are guaranteed almost certain death.
The continued verbal condemnations from Western governments have proven ineffective for over 9 months. Action must be taken to prevent further massacres and to hold Israel accountable for its war crimes. The international community’s failure to act has only emboldened Israel to continue its campaign of violence against Palestinians.
We must impose sanctions, suspend weapons licences and sales, enact a two-way trade embargo, and implement travel restrictions. We must treat all states responsible for reprehensible crimes against humanity the same. These measures are critical to stopping the extermination of the Palestinian people and ensuring that Israel ceases its murderous campaign.
I urge you to take immediate action to demand an unconditional ceasefire and to impose sanctions on Israel. Your voice and actions will make a difference in protecting innocent lives and upholding justice.
