Dear [Elected Official’s Name],
I am writing to you following Israel’s brutal bombings of residential buildings in Gaza’s Beit Lahiya over 2 days. Israel’s airstrikes targeted sheltering families trapped in the area, massacring over 110 Palestinians including more than 20 children.
Images of bodies lay scattered, torn apart amid scenes of chaos, as rescue efforts were hindered by unrelenting air raids. These attacks have killed entire families and countless children, devastating communities and leaving survivors in shock. As one grieving mother asked, “What wrong did they do?”—a question that echoes the profound injustice of this assault on innocent lives.
In the past week, Beit Lahiya’s primary healthcare facility, Kamal Adwan Hospital has been attacked by Israeli forces and many medical staff detained, forcing the facility to operate without basic resources or qualified personnel to care for the wounded.
Israel’s siege on northern Gaza has turned Beit Lahiya into a “disaster area.” Nearly 100,000 residents are trapped, unable to escape due to a deliberate lack of humanitarian corridors and targeted Israeli attacks on civilians attempting to flee. The complete blockade of essential resources by Israel compounds the manufactured humanitarian catastrophe, with an imminent threat of starvation.
The blockade, forced starvation, and systematic bombardment of civilian infrastructure in Beit Lahiya are unconscionable violations of international law.
Israel must be sanctioned for its crimes. A full arms embargo and a two-way trade embargo must be enforced until Israel ceases its illegal occupation, blockade and human rights violations in the region; this will also add pressure for a ceasefire. Recognising the State of Palestine and supporting the prosecution of war crimes is essential.
I look forward to your commitment to upholding international law through these actions.
