Israel has bombed displacement tent camps 5 times in 4 days in Gaza. I am writing to urge immediate action in response to Israel’s continued attacks on camps and refugees. 

On November 11, Israeli forces bombed a tent café located in what was designated a ‘humanitarian zone’ in al-Mawasi, southern Gaza. The unprovoked attack claimed the lives of 10 civilians, including children, and left many more injured, some with injuries so severe they remain unidentified. This attack was just one of 5 in 4 days.

Humanitarian zones should offer civilians sanctuary, but the reality is tragically clear: no place, no moment, no zone is safe from their targeted bombing campaigns. Israeli officials have repeatedly told us that everyone in Gaza is a target, and their actions demonstrate this – every civilian, even babies less than 24 hours old, are targets.

The unrelenting assault on civilians has terrorised the people of Gaza for over 14 months. Imagine an existence filled with constant fear, loss, and devastation, with nowhere to seek safety. The international community’s failure to respond is enabling these atrocities to continue. Every attack on displacement camps represents a war crime. Israel’s actions demand a response, and as elected officials, you have the power and responsibility to lead.

The need for action is urgent. I implore you to sanction Israel, impose a two-way trade embargo, and full arms embargo. This will mount pressure on Israel to agree to a ceasefire and an end to the illegal occupation.

The bombing of refugees, especially in designated humanitarian zones, is an egregious violation of international law. Please stand up for humanity and the rule of law, and let them know that their lives are not invisible or expendable. Take action, words are insufficient and enable this horror to continue.
