Israel Bombs Medics and Journalists in “Double-Tap” Strike on Hospital

Dear [Elected Official’s Name],

I am writing to you with grave distress after Israel’s latest attack on Nasser Hospital, with targeted strikes that have killed 19 people, including 5 journalists. This latest attack brings the death toll of journalists in Gaza to 245.

The first strike was carried out by a suicide drone that hit the upper floors of the hospital, including the roof where journalists were working. Minutes later, a second strike hit the same spot, as first responders and journalists tried to save the injured. This constitutes what is known as a “double-tap strike.” This tactic, condemned by human rights bodies, is designed to maximise civilian casualties by deliberately targeting rescuers and those providing life-saving aid. We have repeatedly seen Israel use this tactic over the past 22 months of genocide.

Journalists and first responders are civilians, and international humanitarian law is explicit: they must be protected at all times, and yet we continue to see their deliberate targeting and killing by the Israeli military. Hospitals are also afforded special protection under the Geneva Conventions, and yet by June 11th 2025 the WHO had recorded 735 attacks on healthcare infrastructure in Gaza since October 2023.

UN experts have described these attacks as “a ‘medicide,’ a sinister component of the intentional creation of conditions calculated to destroy Palestinians in Gaza, which constitutes an act of genocide.”

Israel’s own military data indicates that 83% of all deaths in Gaza are civilians. The targeting of civilians, journalists, first responders, and hospitals is irrefutable.

You have a legal obligation to prevent genocide. Every credible human rights body has already stated the truth: Israel is committing genocide.

I urge you to:

Impose full, comprehensive sanctions on Israel.
Enforce a complete two-way trade embargo—ending all import and export activity with Israel.
Immediately end all arms sales and intelligence cooperation.
Ensure unimpeded access for aid and humanitarian organisations, and suspend GHF’s deadly “aid” sites.
