19,000 Children Admitted for Acute Malnutrition in Gaza This Year
580 Premature Babies Risk Imminent Death from Starvation
Israel’s Weaponisation of Food is a Tool of Genocide
550 Palestinians Killed by Israeli Forces at ‘Aid’ Sites in One Month
Dear [Elected Official’s Name],
Over 18,741 children have been admitted for treatment of acute malnutrition in Gaza this year, representing only 31% of those estimated to require treatment. In May alone, 5,119 children were admitted for acute malnutrition, with 636 having severe acute malnutrition, its most lethal form. “Every one of these cases is preventable” UNICEF’s Regional Director Edouard Beigbeder has said. “Man-made decisions that are costing lives.”
Meanwhile, 580 premature babies are at risk of death from starvation, as Israel blocks baby formula from reaching those in need. Doctors have seen an increase in the number of children born prematurely, with a significant rise in babies born with defects. They also warn of an accelerating crisis, as many new mothers are also unable to breastfeed due to severe malnutrition, jeopardising the health and lives of even more infants.
“These babies have no time … and no voice,” Dr Ahmed al-Farah has said, head of the paediatrics and obstetrics department at Nasser Hospital, “What we need is a permanent solution: Lift the siege.”
Over one year ago, a UN investigation found Israel guilty of committing the crime of “extermination” in Gaza, as well as using starvation as a weapon of war. Despite this, Israel continues these actions with impunity.
Since May 27th 2025, 550 Palestinians have also been murdered by Israeli forces, while attempting to obtain food, at GHF ‘aid’ sites in Gaza.
These crimes must end. The crime of starvation. The crime of extermination. The crime of genocide.
I call on you to ensure the government:
You have a duty to prevent genocide. Act now.
