The Freedom Flotilla the ‘Handala‘ is sailing toward Gaza with unarmed civilians and vital humanitarian aid. We must protect this peaceful mission — and open a permanent humanitarian sea corridor into Gaza.

This is not the first time the Freedom Flotilla have sailed to break the siege, it is the 37th mission to break Israel’s decades-long illegal siege. In 2010, the Flotilla crew onboard the Mavi Marmara was attacked by Israel, and 10 peaceful activists were killed. In 2025, an earlier mission onboard the Conscience was directly bombed by Israel twice in international waters in Malta, then in June 2025, activists onboard the Madleen were taken hostage in international waters by Israel.

Israel’s continued blockade of the vast majority of food and humanitarian aid continues to starve Palestinians. Meanwhile, those trying to obtain what little aid is allowed in are gunned down. Almost 800 Palestinians have been massacred at these ‘aid sites’ in under 2 months, while bombings also continue across the Strip. Over 57,820 Palestinians have been killed by Israel since October 2023.

Israel’s illegal siege of Gaza is starving Palestinians to death. The ICJ determined that plausible genocide is taking place, and we have an obligation to prevent it. The court specified the necessity of allowing unimpeded aid access in their ruling.

I urge you to support the Flotilla to enable safe passage and allow experienced humanitarian workers, medics, lawyers, journalists and activists to deliver urgently needed aid to Gaza. A humanitarian corridor to Gaza must be established to enable unimpeded access for other humanitarian groups to deliver aid.

I call on you to ensure the government:

• ⁠Imposes full, comprehensive sanctions on Israel.

• Enforce a complete two-way trade embargo — ending all import and export activity with Israel.

• Immediately end all arms sales and intelligence cooperation.

• Ensure the unimpeded access of aid and humanitarian organisations, and the suspension of GHF’s deadly “aid” sites.

You have a duty to prevent genocide. Act now.
