Israel currently holds
over 9,100 Palestinians captive, in addition to hundreds held in Israeli military camps. Since the “ceasefire” began, Israel has
ramped up arrests across the West Bank, detaining more than 175 Palestinians in raids, including children, amidst ransacking homes, beating families, and destroying property.
Thousands are taken every year; the majority
without charge, trial, or even explanation. These are not “detainees.” They are political prisoners of a
designated apartheid regime that treats Palestinian life as disposable.
Since October 2023,
over 11,000 Palestinians have been held in Israeli prisons, at least 3,500 without trial. Nearly
1,700 seized from Gaza have also been held without charge.
Up to
40% imprisoned at some point in their lives, a generational targeting that has turned incarceration into a tool of control.
In the West Bank alone, since the genocide began,
19,000 arrested, including more than 590 women and 1,550 children.
Israel also
holds bodies captive in great numbers, desecrating religious burial practices. On the
return of 200 Palestinian bodies during the “ceasefire”, only 57 could be identified due to mutilation of their features from torture, and Israel’s destruction of Gaza’s laboratories has rendered forensic testing impossible.
135 mutilated bodies were returned from a single detention centre, Sde Teiman, where it is reported Israel holds 1,500 bodies. The returned bodies bore marks of torture: blindfolds, bound hands, bullet wounds at point-blank range, and crushed limbs.
Whistleblowers and those held captive in
Sde Teiman have described how detainees are kept in open-air cages, shackled, blindfolded, stripped naked, forced to wear nappies, and even
raped. Human rights organisations have described it as a
site of torture and murder.
Israel’s occupation tactics of subjugation and imprisonment have lasted decades, and must be stopped in order for the rights of the Palestinian people to be realised. The
apartheid and occupation must end.

- Impose full, comprehensive sanctions on Israel.
- Enforce a complete two-way trade embargo, ending all import and export activity.
- Immediately end all arms sales and intelligence cooperation.
- Ensure unimpeded access for aid and humanitarian organisations.
