Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are forced to endure freezing temperatures, relentless storms, and heavy rains in makeshift shelters unfit for human habitation. The situation demands immediate action.

On November 25, devastating thunderstorms swept through Gaza, flooding overcrowded displacement camps. Families huddled in nylon sheets or improvised shelters that leak or collapse under the weight of the rain. With no winter clothing or blankets, children spent the night cold and terrified, unsure whether the destruction was caused by the storms or Israeli airstrikes.

The impact of the storms has been catastrophic, with shelters destroyed and tents washed away with people’s remaining possessions. Lower-lying areas are flooding with sewage due to makeshift toilets and blocked sanitation systems, threatening the lives of half a million people. Malnutrition, combined with exposure to the cold and unsanitary conditions, will worsen illness and increase mortality rates.

Despite the desperate need, Israel continues to block essential supplies such as mattresses, blankets, and shelter materials. At the Rafah crossing, 33 trucks loaded with mattresses have been stuck for six months. At the current rate of aid entry, it will take two years to meet even the most basic needs of displaced families.

Israel’s blockade and deliberate denial of life-saving materials make clear that this is not simply a natural disaster. Winter itself is being weaponised to wipe out Gaza’s population. Please act now.

I implore you to sanction Israel, impose a two-way trade embargo, and full arms embargo. This will mount pressure on Israel to agree to a ceasefire, end the blockade and the illegal occupation.
