Dear [Ambassador / Embassy of [France / the Netherlands]],

I am writing with deep concern over the unlawful detention of [French / Dutch] citizen [insert relevant name: Mark, Pascal, or Yanis], who was part of the Freedom Flotilla’s ‘Madleen’ bringing humanitarian aid to Gaza. 

The Flotilla was illegally intercepted in international waters. It never entered Israeli territory, yet its crew were falsely charged with “illegally entering Israel” and were unlawfully imprisoned. Three people from the ‘Madleen’ team are still illegally detained by Israel and might be for another month.

The three remaining activists Pascal Maurieras, Yanis Mhamdi, Marco van Rennes were meant to be released and flyingback to their families today, June 13. We know that they are allowed only one hour of light a day and are being treated with aggression. 

Now with Israel’s attack on Iran, the airports are shut down and there are no flights in or out. We call on the French and Dutch governments to find alternative routes and get them home, whether through Jordan or otherwise.

As a violation of international law and an attack on humanitarian action. I urge the [French / Dutch] government to:

• Demand their immediate release.
• Take all necessary diplomatic steps to ensure their safety, and keep them together.
• Uphold the rights of citizens engaging in legal humanitarian missions.
• Demand that Israel abides by international law and hold them accountable for its criminal behaviour.
